City Council Candidates Talk Rolling Mill

October 25th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Four of the five candidates for Cumberland city council attended Monday night’s candidate forum at Allegany College of Maryland.  Only Josh Greise did not participate in the forum broadcast by WCBC Radio.  The number one topic debated was the Rolling Mill project off I 68.  The city hopes to develop that area into commercial property but there are still several homeowners who refuse to sell.

Incumbent councilman Dave Caporale said that eminent domain is not on the agenda.

Challenger Eugene Frazier says he believes the holdouts are acting on principle and not seeking more money to buy their homes.

John Sangiovanni says development of the Rolling Mill property will have many good side effects for the city.

Ben Wolters says too many people drive past Cumberland on I 68 and it is time for them to stop and spend dollars here.
