When bluegrass legend Del McCoury made the announcement five years ago that the DelFest Memorial Day weekend concert would be an annual event at the Allegany County Fairgrounds, he made two commitments — that the event would grow in popularity and that it would benefit Western Maryland in doing so. The first part of that pledge has been evident with crowds increasing dramatically each year with the event gaining national acclaim among festival-going music fans. Perhaps more important though, is what McCoury and his local foundation gives back to the community. Del himself routinely makes good on that promise to give back to the community that has so enthusiastically embraced the annual show. Each year he returns to Allegany County with his checkbook in hand to provide donations to a variety of local charitable organizations. ..
