Former chief of staff claims Hogan pledged support

Roy McGrath, Gov. Larry Hogan's former chief of staff is shared texts were Hogan apparently supported McGrath over allegations he illegally demanded a nearly quarter-million dollar severance payment from another state agency.  In the texts shared with the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post, Hogan told McGrath “I will support you" and offered him help from top aides to respond to the allegations.  McGrath later resigned. Last month he was indicted on fraud charges and is also accused of illegally recording conversations with Hogan and others.  Hogan's communications director Mike Ricci told WBAL that McGrath's statements are dishonest. "These are the falsehoods and delusions of an individual facing dozens of federal and state charges for fraud and violations of the public trust," Ricci said.
