Hogan Reminds Parents of Local School Board Autonomy Regarding In-Person Learning

Some Allegany County parents have been speaking, out saying they want their children back in school, and that message has triggered a heated debate in the community. A Facebook page dedicated to returning kids to the classroom now boasts more than 2,500 members. Despite the current COVID-19 surge in the county, many of  those in the “Parents for Re-Opening” group argue for a return to the classroom for their kids, saying that they are losing interest and falling behind. In late August, Governor Larry Hogan announced schools across Maryland can reopen. But while Allegany County briefly saw some students returning for in person instruction, the recent spike has forced a return to all-virtual learning. The Allegany County School Board will announce on Friday plans for next week.
