Justice Announces Heroes Grants, Marsh Says Peak Hits WV on Easter

April 10th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced Friday that his administration would be sending $100,000 to each county in the state to reward those on the front lines of the pandemic, and that he was approving a $500 bonus for each member of the WV National Guard activated during the response.

Justice said he didn't want the money to be used to backfill local budget problems, but to go to people who have been working in the trenches, from police and EMS to store clerks.

Also Friday, COVID-19 Czar Clay Marsh said that updated guidance from projection models indicates that West Virginia may hit the peak of the pandemic on Easter Sunday, and that projected deaths have been scaled back from over 500 to around 74.
