Local Tourism Winners Announced

In April 2019, Allegany County Tourism launched its second annual Mountain Maryland Photo Contest as a way to collect photos that tell the county’s story of culture and lifestyle, giving community members and visitors the ability to submit photos in four categories – Arts and Entertainment, History and Heritage, Active Outdoor Recreation, and Nature and Scenic Landscapes. With over 400 photo submissions, a panel of five judges, made up of marketing and/or arts professionals, selected the top three winners in each category, as follows:

 

Arts and Entertainment

  • 1st Place – “Frostburg Cruisin’ Main Street” by Ryan Brenneman
  • 2nd Place – “Art Vendor at Canal Place” by Mike Edelman
  • 3rd Place – “Greenway Avenue Stadium” by Nicholas Farrell

 

History and Heritage

  • 1st Place – “Frostburg Depot Aerial” by Ryan Brenneman
  • 2nd Place – “Riverside Park” by Tammy Riley
  • 3rd Place – “Foggy Night at Western Railway Station” by Joan Johnston

 

Active Outdoor Recreation

  • 1st Place – “Canoe on Lake Habeeb” by Frances Borchardt
  • 2nd Place – “Andrew at Wills Mountain” by Kent Saylor
  • 3rd Place – “Dragon Boat Races” by Joan Johnston

 

Nature and Scenic Landscapes

  • 1st Place – “Cumberland City Aerial” by Ryan Brenneman
  • 2nd Place – “Rocky Gap Sunrise” by Tammy Riley
  • 3rd Place – “Snow at the Train Station” by Tammy Riley

 

“We almost doubled our submissions from last year and received some amazing photos this year,” says Jessica Palumbo, Marketing and Sales Manager for Allegany County Tourism. “It’s so great to connect with the community through this contest, and we hope to see its continued growth and success.”

 

Cash prizes were awarded for the top three photos in each category, totaling $1,700. Winning photos will be printed and displayed at the Allegany County Visitors Center, in Cumberland, MD, and the Hotel Gunter, in Frostburg, MD, in mid-January. The 2020 Mountain Maryland Photo Contest will launch in April 2020.
