New Years Fire Does $600,000 in Damage to Maryland Minerals

A big fire on New Years Eve, not long before midnight, sent fire fighters in the Garrett and Preston County areas into action at Maryland Minerals, which is located on Quarry Road in the Deep Creek Lake area.

Volunteers were on the scene for over four hours, All told, a company shop building suffered $125,000 in damage, and $475,000 to the contents.

The investigation into the cause is continuing, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office.
