O’Malley Signs Bill To Build Wind Turbines Off Coast Of Ocean City

Symbolic of his pledged commitment to the environment, the first bill Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed on the day following the legislative general assembly session was the measure to build wind turbines off the coast of Ocean City to generate electricity. The turbines wouldn't be operational until 2017 at the earliest.  Electric utilities would be allowed to impose an up to $1.50 a month surcharge on customer bills to pay for the project. The governor says the turbines would create a source of clean, cheap electricity, and hundreds of construction and permanent jobs.
