Plans for Opening Downtown Mall Not Finalized

With ARC fund secured for planning and design, plans are moving along for a reconfiguration of the downtown mall. The city began exploring plans in 2015 to open the downtown pedestrian mall to vehicular and bicycle traffic.  Based on feedback from various groups and the general public, much of the interest centered  on the alternative that would place roads between Mechanic and Liberty streets and Centre and George streets.  The subject was on the agenda of the Downtown Development Commission Thursday and the indications are that final plans for the downtown pedestrian mall are not formalized and a complete design was still being analyzed.  DDC Chair Sandy Saville said she anticipates other opportunities for public input prior to any concrete plans being finalized…
