Questions Raised Over City’s Water Supply In Regards To Fracking

During last week’s meeting of the Cumberland City Council which was dominated by a large group of citizens pushing for a statewide ban of fracking- one man raised questions about the city’s water supply, which originates in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, where fracking is legal. Basically at issue is what protections the city has over its water supply.  Jeff Rhodes, city administrator, briefly commented noting that since the water supply sits in Pennsylvania the city of Cumberland obviously has no regulatory authority there. He added that the city is looking at mineral rights to make sure someone couldn’t frack under a portion that the city owns…
