SHA Comments on Slow Development Frustration

Those comments made last week by Allegany County Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr, once again expressing frustration with the State Highway Administration. Brodie isn’t alone in his frustration as Delegate Wendel Beitzel at a Chamber of Commerce function last month said that hears often that an unfriendly business climate in Maryland is perceived because of the way regulations are enforced rather than because of the regulations themselves- and he pointed to the SHA and its permitting process as a prime example. Charlie Gishler, a spokesman for the SHA, tells WCBC News that there is a good line of communication between the department and local economic development officials- and that every effort is being made to move those projects forward. Unfortunately, he says, some delays are inevitable as safety must always be the highest priority for the department…
