Summer Tourism May See Uptick with Schools Opening After Labor Day

The summer tourism season is fast approaching, and many families throughout Maryland will have an extra week to enjoy with their kids this year as a result of the governor’s executive order mandating the school year begin after Labor Day. The schedule won’t be impacted in most of western Maryland as both the Allegany and Garrett county school systems were granted waivers allowing their schools years to start prior to the end of summer holiday. Winni Roche, executive director Maryland Tourism Coalition, tells WBAL that she anticipates the new schedule to provide a boost in tourism revenues across the state- but won’t know for sure until the final numbers are in late this year…
