Swanton man facing serious charges after assault

On 11/13/18, at approximately 0615 hrs., Members of the Allegany County Sheriffs Office responded to Main Street Lonaconing Maryland for a reported Domestic assault in progress. Upon arrival, Witness's advised that a subject had thrown a female to the ground and drug her by her hair up the street. A description was given of the vehicle and was located a short distance from the initial scene.  The driver/suspect identified as Robert Eugene Johnson Jr. 53 yrs old Swanton, Maryland and the victim was seated in the vehicle. When the emergency lights were turned on Johnson fled from the scene on foot. However, a short while later, Johnson  was observed in the area attempting to enter a vehicle to leave and again attempted to flee the area on foot after noticing deputies approaching him. Johnson fled and forced his way into a residence by busting out the glass and forcing the door open. Deputies followed him into the residence and located him inside the house. As a result, Johnson was placed under arrest and was charged with the following charges:

2nd degree assault, Recklessly engage in conduct that created a substantial risk of death or serious injury, Disturbing the peace,  3 counts of destruction of property, breaking and entering, 2 counts obstruct and hinder. The subject was also wanted on 2 warrants from Garrett County, Maryland for  2nd degree assault, and Theft under $100.

The subject was being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending a bond hearing at District Court. The victim refused medical treatment.
