Tedd Eirich Resigns As Alco Basketball Coach

November 5th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

Earlier today, Tedd Eirich resigned his post as Allegany High School head varsity boys basketball coach, and school principal, Mike Calhoun, has appointed Jon Irons as interim head coach for the 2018-2019 season. Eirich will remain in his capacity as one of the school’s athletic directors.

“I just felt that with the opening of the new school and after 30 years coaching and 18 years as the head coach that the time was right for me to step down and let someone new take over,” said Eirich. The Campers went 353-93 under Coach Eirich.

WCBC Sports had heard rumblings that the change was imminent, but was told by Allegany County Public Schools Thursday that there was no truth to the rumor.

Jon Irons, who either played for or coached with Eirich for the past 14 years had this to say about his new responsibility, “I’m just really excited for this opportunity. Coach Eirich has built a great program at Allegany, and I hope to keep that momentum going.

“Allegany High School thanks Coach Eirich for his service as the head basketball coach these past 18 years,” said Mike Calhoun. “His outstanding record speaks for itself, and personally, I have appreciated the way he ran the basketball program.”
