December 29th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

On Tuesday, December 27th around 2 pm, troopers from the Maryland State Police Cumberland Barrack were conducting traffic enforcement in the area of I68 at Exit 50 (Rocky Gap).

Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a gray Ford Fusion witnessed driving above the posted limit.  The driver of the vehicle 30 year-old Derrick A. Johnson, White Marsh, refused to stop and continued on I68 before exiting at Naves Crossroad.  After a short pursuit, the vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of Marsden Lane.  Johnson exited the vehicle and surrendered to police without further incident.  A passenger in the vehicle, 28-year-old Parrish Letric Williams, Jr., Baltimore, attempted to flee on foot before being detained by troopers.

A positive K9 scan of the vehicle led to the discovery of 43.8 grams of heroin, a digital scale with suspected heroin residue and other paraphernalia.  Johnson and Williams were taken before a District Court Commissioner and were held on bond.  Cumberland Police Department assisted with the stop.
