WCBC Gears Up For Local Election

November 6th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

WCBC has been gearing up for our General Election Coverage for several weeks, fulfilling our commitment of providing candidate forums in all of the key local races. Although there has been lots of coverage of the Presidential Election, Sixth District Congress, Board of Education, and Cumberland City Council are the only local contests.

The Maryland Board of Elections is reporting that almost 860,000 registered voted during the Early Voting period which closed on Thursday. That's over 22% of those who are registered. In Allegany County, about 8.5%, or just over 3700 voted early, while the percentages in Garrett and Washington Counties were at 17.5% and 12.5% respectively.

The State of Maryland will pay a Boston based firm to audit the results of the General Election. Clear Ballot will receive a scanned copy of each ballot cast in both early voting and on election day and will compare what it finds to the official state count. The audit will be completed next weekend, but won't be announced until the state reports its official count.
