Woman Sentenced After Hagerstown Police Sergeant’s Daughter Overdoses

August 4th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to prison in the 2015 fatal heroin overdose of the teenage daughter of a retired Hagerstown police sergeant. The Herald-Mail reports that Erica L. Buffolino was given a 71-month sentence in a Baltimore court Tuesday in connection with the death of Brooke Simmers.

Simmers was the daughter of retired Sgt. Kevin Simmers. Court records show Buffolino pleaded guilty in January to criminal conspiracy to distribute heroin and distribution of heroin.

Authorities say Brooke Simmers was a recovering addict who had recently been released from jail when she went to a Hagerstown home in April 2015 and took heroin.

Simmers' body was discovered in her car in a church parking lot the next day.

The two others indicted for their role in Simmers' death have already received prison sentences.
