WV senator leaves democrat party

November 7th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Not even 24 hours after the Republicans won control of the West Virginia House of Delegates for the first time in eight decades, a Democratic State Senator has changed party lines and changed everything. It's a decision has some Eastern Panhandle Senators concerned about their voice in the state legislature.

WHAG TV reports that on Wednesday, Democrat Senator Daniel Hall of Wyoming County flipped his party affiliation, giving Republicans majority control in both chambers of the West Virginia State Legislature.

"We're losing two major, powerful leadership and that will have an effect," said Senator Herb Snyder, (D) Jefferson County. "I'm sure I speak for Senator [John] Unger too that we're going to do everything we can to continue to represent the citizens of the Eastern Panhandle and the 1.8 million in the state."

Some residents believe this power shift of southern, coal counties taking control will have an effect on the Eastern Panhandle's voice and their issues.
