ELKTON, MD (January 8, 2023) - State Fire Marshals are crediting a smoke alarm and a home fire sprinkler system for saving the lives of a family and reducing significant property damage at a Elkton home late last night. Singerly Fire Company and mutual-aid departments were called to the home just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday morning for a reported dwelling fire in the 200 block of Independence Drive after the occupant discovered a fire in a bedroom after a smoke alarm sounded. Police Department investigate unattended toddler
On 01/07/2023 at approximately 1:30 PM the Cumberland City Police Department were dispatched to the area of North Cresap Street and West Second Street for an unattended juvenile. The complainant had observed the toddler aged child alone in the roadway and brought them to safety. Officers received a call from the mother stating her child was missing. The juvenile was returned to the mother and officers started an investigation. The child was supposed to be in the care of Michael Caswell at a nearby residence. CEDC expected to approve contract with a developer for the former Memorial Hospital property
The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation on Tuesday is expected to officially approve a contract with a developer for the former Memorial Hospital property. Cumberland City officials last April agreed to transfer ownership of the property on Memorial Avenue to the CEDC with plans for the location expected to involve construction of a housing development- specifically market rate residential housing.
