Allegany College Holds Awards Ceremony

Juneteenth State Holiday for Mountaineers

Gov. Jim Justice today issued a proclamation, officially declaring Juneteenth 2023 as a State holiday in West Virginia.  Juneteenth, which is recognized on June 19 each year, celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States.  The Juneteenth State holiday this year will be observed on Monday, June 19, 2023, as a full-day holiday for all public employees of the State.

Fatal Accident in Garrett County Tuesday

On 5/16/23 at 4:31 p.m., Troopers from the McHenry Barrack responded to a motor vehicle collision on westbound Interstate 68 near the 20 mile marker in Garrett County, Maryland.  Once on scene, Troopers discovered that a tractor and trailer rolled over and was blocking both westbound lanes of travel, causing the interstate to be shut down for several hours.  Throughout the investigation Troopers determined that the truck and trailer was initially traveling in the slow lane of travel when it left the roadway onto the left shoulder for unknown reasons.  The truck and trailer then traveled back across both lanes of…

Paul Clayton Herring, 85, of Ocean View, Delaware, passed away on May 5, 2023. Born on March 22, 1938, in Cumberland, Maryland, he was the son of the late Neff C. And Eloise (Sharon) Herring. Obstructing and Hindering Arrest in the area of Virginia Avenue

On Tuesday May 16th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the area of Virginia Avenue. During the course of the officer’s investigation into the traffic stop a k-9 was requested and a positive alert was indicated. While the officers were conducting this investigation, Brian Shelton had approached them and began to interfere with the investigation.
