Arrest Warrant Served

On Tuesday May 16th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Quran Robinson. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court when he violated the conditions of his probation. Robinson was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on a $5,000 bond. Arrest: Quran Isiah Robinson, age 25, Baltimore Maryland. Charge: Violation of Probation.

Trespassing Arrest

On Tuesday May 16th, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 block of Winston Street for a reported trespassing complaint. Upon officer’s arrival they observed Matthew Greening to be urinating on the grounds of the business. Greening was advised by officers that he needed to leave the property, but refused to do so. Greening was placed under arrest and later released on Criminal Citations, pending his trial at District Court. Arrest: Matthew Greening, age 34, Cumberland Maryland. Charges: Trespassing, Disorderly Conduct.

Project to revitalize Constitution Park underway

At Tuesday’s Cumberland Mayor and City Council meeting, and order was approved replacing all the picnic tables at Constitution Park.  New Grills have already been installed for the upcoming season, all a part of the project to revitalize the park. New signage is also being planned throughout the area.  Mayor Morriss commented on the park’s upgrades as being needed and valuable.

Generations Rehab Group opening soon

Egle Nursing Home is adding to its care family with the opening soon of Generations Rehab Group.  Jeff Metz, Administrator at Egle, was on the Dave Norman show recently and spoke about how the new endeavor will benefit patients being discharged from in-house care… Staff is in place and Generations Rehab Group is set to start work in the next couple of weeks…  

Maryland Governor Signs Bills for Veterans

Maryland Governor Wes Moore brought relief to state veterans on Friday with the signing of several bills designed to lighten their tax load, provide for spousal/dependent burial, and set up a checkbox on tax returns for donations to a Maryland Veterans Trust Fund. The military retirement tax exemption will be increased from $5,000 to $12,500 for individuals under the age of 55 and from $15,000 to $20,000 for individuals over the age of 55. 

Trout Run Bridge reopens for Cass Railroad

Another scenic railroad in the region is celebrating a victory – the Cass Railroad in Cass, West Virginia cut the ribbon on a restored Trout Run Bridge – a part of the excursion line that had been closed since floods in 1985. The original hand-stacked bridge was replaced with a ballast deck bridge reopening 15 miles of track that had been washed away.  Commissioner of Highways Jimmy Wriston praised the workers who sometimes put in 12-14 hour work days since 2019 to get the project completed, hauling materials 5 miles by rail to the worksite…

Bobcat Academy gives students immersive college experience

Frostburg State University will be hosting students from both Allegany and Garrett Counties in a Dual Enrollment Pilot program next fall.  The Bobcat Academy will give students an immersive college experience and an opportunity to earn college credits while completing their senior year of high school.  Dr. Kim Green-Kalbaugh, Chief Academic Officer for Allegany County, spoke about the academy at this month’s school board meeting… Garrett County schools will have open house events on May 19th and 30th for students and parents interested in the Bobcat Academy.

Interstate 68 westbound in Grantsville

Traffic Alert… Interstate 68 westbound lanes now open Updated @ 6:20AM by Myers in the WCBC newsroom. Traffic Alert… Interstate 68 westbound lanes remain closed following Tuesday afternoon tractor-trailer accident near Grantsville.
