Trespassing Arrest

On May 6th, 2023 at approximately 8:30 am, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 20 block of Wineow Street for a reported trespassing complaint. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with employees who advised that Matthew Zink was back on the property after being previously removed from the property. Zink was placed under arrest and later released on a Criminal Citation for Trespassing. Arrest: Matthew Schafer Zink, age 39, Cumberland Maryland. Charge: Trespassing.

Six Earn All-ECC Honors for Men’s Lacrosse

 The East Coast Conference announced its Men's Lacrosse All-Conference awards on Friday afternoon, with Frostburg State having six players named to the ECC All-Conference First and Second Team. Seniors Jake Bowman and Owen McCallum and junior Luke McCullough all earned spots on the ECC All-Conference First Team. Bowman led the ECC in goals (67) and in points (90), breaking both individual single seasons records for FSU. Attorney General Brown and Maryland Department of the Environment File Lawsuit Against Owner of Baltimore Television Tower for Alleged Lead Paint Violations

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown and Maryland Department of the Environment Secretary Serena McIlwain today announced the filing of a lawsuit against Television Tower Inc., the owner of the tower on Baltimore’s Television Hill, and Skyline Tower Painting Inc. for alleged violations of Maryland law that led to lead paint chips raining down on the surrounding communities. The complaint, filed today in Baltimore City Circuit Court, describes a project to remove lead paint from the iconic “candelabra” television tower that was carried out with little-to-no containment methods by an unaccredited contractor. 2nd annual Garrett County Fish with a Cop event

On Saturday, May 6, 2023, members from Garrett County's law enforcement agencies held the second annual Garrett County Fish with a Cop event at the Accident Pond.  Children were paired with police officers for the day's event strengthening relationships between police and the community.  The day consisted of officers picking up the selected children, providing rides to the event, fishing, food, games and gifts before returning them home.  The event was very successful, and rewarding and the weather capped off a perfect day.          We would like to thank all of the children and parents/guardians who participated…

Fatal Vehicle Collision

MSP- Hagerstown was dispatched to W/B I-70 at the 18 Mile marker for a motor vehicle collision involving serious injuries. While on-route to the collision dispatch was informed the crash involved a single vehicle with serious injuries to the driver, and sole occupant. EMS arrived on scene and attempted life saving measures. Ultimately, the driver was transported to Meritus Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 2341 hours, by medical staff. Murder-Suicide in Annapolis

A man fatally shot two people before shooting himself Friday afternoon outside a Holiday Inn Express hotel in Annapolis, according to Anne Arundel County police.  The gunman and one of the victims who was shot died at the scene.  Another victim who was shot drove himself to a store, where he called 911.  He later died of his injuries at the hospital.  Anne Arundel County police have stated that there is no threat to the community, and this was not an active shooter incident. 

West Virginia Settles with Kroger for $68 million

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has announced another opioid-related settlement, this time with the supermarket chain Kroger agreeing to pay $68 million.  West Virginia has now recovered more than $1 billion in opioid-related settlements, including from Walgreens, Wal-Mart, and CVS.  The CDS estimates that overdoses have been killing over 100,000 people a year in the United States. 

County United Way Hoping to Close the Gap

The County United Way will be wrapping up its annual giving campaign at the end of the month.  This year, the fund drive is running behind previous years and is currently about $160,000 short of their goal.  To make a tax deductible donation to the County United Way, visit www.cuw.org.  

Manchin Seeks Bipartisan Solution to Debt Ceiling Crisis

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin continues to argue for a bipartisan solution to the US debt ceiling issue. Fewee by many as a centrist, Manchin has continually berated President Biden to negotiate with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to find a sensible debt remedy.  Senator Manchin spoke with CNN’s Pam Brown about how the national debt affects every American.

Public Safety Career Fair This Sunday

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the H.I.D.E. Foundation is hosting a Public Safety Career Fair this Sunday at the Allegany County Fairgrounds.  Onsite job applications will be available for police, fire and emergency medical services, dispatch, Sheriff’s Patrol, Detention Center, Volunteer Fire Companies and other organizations.  Taking place from Noon to 4pm in the multi-purpose building, Trooper 5 will be present (weather permitting),  along with firetruck rides, food, raffles and more.
