Local businessman Jack Kreiling has died at age 91. Kreiling opened KMK Insurance, now located on Henderson Avenue, in 1963, and the business is still operated by his family. Kreiling graduated from Allegany High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Interment will be at Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery.
Matt Miller, executive director of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation, says that he expects at least 200 residential units to be built at the former Memorial Hospital site in the Johnson Heights area of Cumberland. Miller told the mayor and council at a work session that the units will include townhouses and apartments.
On Friday, April 14, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served three bench warrants on Ruby McCullough. The Cumberland Civil Air Patrol – a student team out of Cumberland Maryland – is among 100 national finalists in the American Rocketry Challenge. The students will compete against other teams at the National Finals, taking place on May 20 in The Plains, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC.
