Senator Mike McKay defend the actions of the Allegany County Commissioners

The Allegany County Republican Social Club met Thursday evening and heard from Senator Mike McKay who spoke primarily on the legislation dealing with abortion in the state and particularly with the clinic that is coming to the county.  He took the time to defend the actions of the Allegany County Commissioners in how the abortion clinic came to locate here.    

Burks, Mesy, McCoy Secure Victories for Men’s Track at Messiah Invitational

The Frostburg State men's track & field team finished in fourth place overall at the Messiah Invitational, earning three first place finishes on the day.    The top finishes came from sophomore Tom McCoy topping 4.65m in the pole vault, junior Nathaniel Mesy winning the 400 meters in 49.63, and sophomore Marquise Burks taking the decathlon, totaling 6471 points, good enough for an NCAA provisional mark and third in FSU history.   The Bobcats had two high finishes in the 800 meters coming from freshmen Kaleb Berhanu (1:55.85) in second and Justin Dowell (1:57.93) in fourth.   The 4×100 and 4x400relay teams…

ASSAULT ARREST

On Saturday, April 15, 2023 at approximately 3:21 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 600 block of Elm Street for a disturbance.  Police arrived on scene and observed Ebonni Boyd striking a male subject with her fists.  Boyd resisted arrest and was taken into custody after a brief struggle.  She was transported to Central Booking and later seen by a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing.  Boyd was released on her personal recognizance. ARRESTED:  Ebonni Marie Boyd         AGE:  18        Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  Assault-2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest

On Sunday, April 16, 2023 at approximately 12:21 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the area of Valley Street at N. Centre Street for a disturbance.  Officers arrived on scene and observed several people in a verbal altercation.  One of the subjects involved, later identified as Donovan Lee, began walking away.  Police attempted to detain Lee and question him regarding a possible assault.  Lee refused to listen to officers’ orders to stop walking away and he began causing a disturbance.  Lee was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.  He was later seen by a District…

Gov. Justice announces state employees will no longer be charged for parking at state facilities

Gov. Jim Justice announced today that state employees will no longer have to pay for parking, either at the State Capitol Complex or at any other state facilitThe bottom line is all state employees that currently pay for parking will see an increase on their paychecks,” Gov. Justice said. The new Rule, filed by the West Virginia Department of Administration to the Secretary of State’s Office, will go into effect on May 5, 2023, and employees currently paying for parking will no longer see that money removed from their paychecks. Frostburg Takes 9 Event Final Wins at MEC Individual Championships

The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team won an MEC-best nine event finals in the individual finals event on Saturday afternoon.   FSU took the first heat of the day in the 5-element acro with a score of 9.50. The Bobcats then proceeded to dominate the pyramid event, winning all three heats with scores of 9.575 in the inversion, 9.55 in the synchronized, and 9.725 in the open.   Frostburg took one heat in the toss event, scoring a 9.625 in the open toss. Maryland State Police helicopter helped rescue a man after he sustained injuries from a fall early Saturday morning.

The 52-year-old man was found on the shore near Big Sandy Creek by rescuers from Preston County after he suffered a fall before 8 a.m.; he was located in a remote area of Preston County, in the Bruceton Mills, WV area. Rescuers from the Bruceton Mills VFD, Masontown VFD, Albright VFD, KAMP Ambulance, and the Mountaineer Area Rescue Group were all assisting with the rescue. They called for a Maryland State Police Aviation Command helicopter for an aerial rescue due to the steep terrain and limited access into the area.
