Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) announced today that it will host a ribbon-cutting event at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, in its Technology Building to mark the launch of its participation in Maryland’s Cyber Workforce Accelerator (CWA) program. DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY ARREST
On Saturday, April 12, 2025 at approximately 12:34 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 700 block of Maryland Avenue for a male subject destroying the inside of the store. Police arrived on scene and detained the suspect who was identified as Jason Kauffman. The staff reported that Kauffman destroyed and stole merchandise. After further investigation, Kauffman was arrested and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center where he is currently being held awaiting a bond hearing. National Day of Prayer Local Events Planned
Events are being planned for the annual National Day of Prayer. A prayer rally will be held April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Central Assembly Church on Bedford Road with a freewill offering to be taken. There will be a prayer breakfast May 1 at 8 a.m. at the Allegany County Fairgrounds multipurpose building. An outdoor observance will take place at City Hall on May 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will feature live music and prayer.
West Virginia High School Basketball Player Charged
A former basketball player at Harman High School in Randolph County is facing three felony charges after an on-court incident. Gage Ketterman, 18, has been charged with malicious assault and two counts of attempted malicious assault after he allegedly broke an opponent’s nose during a game. Police Release Info On Truck Crash
On April 10, 2025, at approximately 6:00 p.m., emergency personnel including the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department, and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to Interstate 68, eastbound, prior to the Beall Street exit 43A, related to a tractor-trailer crash. Upon arrival, first responders found that the tractor-trailer had lost control and driven over the guardrail, partially down the embankment, with the trailer still hanging, blocking lanes #2 and #3. Arrest Warrant Served
On April 10th, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Jermiah Robert Tigner, 47, of Queens NY. Tigner was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued in reference to an incident that occurred on February 19th, 2025. During that incident, the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the 100 block of N. Centre St for a reported theft. It was learned that a subject had broken into a storage building for the business and stolen approx. $2,000 worth of food items.
