Cumberland man with Crossbow Arrested

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Eric Bagatti.  The warrant was issued in connection with an assault incident that occurred on November 12, 2022.   On this date at approximately 6:05 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 600 block of N. Centre Street for the report of a subject pointing a crossbow at people. Police make assault, disorderly conduct Arrests

On Sunday, November 13, 2022, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Heather Dillsworth.  The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on November 9, 2022.  On this date at approximately 11:45 AM, officers responded to a residence in the 200 block of Arch Street for an assault.  Police contacted the occupants and learned that multiple assaults had occurred.  After further investigation, police filed for charges against Dillsworth at the District Court of Allegany County.  Dillsworth was released pending trial after being served. Homecoming Part Two did not go well for the Allegany Campers as the Fort Hill sentinals cruised to an easy victory Saturday evening. The 101st meeting of Fort Hill and Allegany ended as the previous 18 have, as the Sentinels demolished the Campers, 48-0, in the Class 1A West Region co-championship at Greenway Avenue Stadium. Fort Hill (10-1) is the No. 2 seed in the state and will host No. 7 Perryville (7-4) this week. Allegany finishes the season 7-4.

Busy Saturday for City Police

On Saturday the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Nicholas Moreland.  The warrant was issued in connection with a destruction of property investigation.  On October 28, 2022 at approximately 5:53 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business on Baltimore Street for a disturbance.  While officers searched for the subject creating the disturbance, it was learned that a window to one of the businesses in the area had been damaged.  After further investigation, a suspect was developed and identified as Nicholas Moreland.  Police filed for charges against Moreland at the District Court of Allegany County…

Hall of Fame Radio Host Jim Bohannon dies at 78

A well-known, DC-based national radio host Jim Bohannon has died at 78. Bohannon worked at the radio stations WGAY, WTOP, and WRC in DC before making a name for himself on the national scene. His program was broadcast on WCBC. He was born on Jan.7, 1944, in Corvallis, Oregon, where his father was stationed in the U.S. Army during WWII, according to his obituary. His love for radio started early, starting work in the field in high school, and continued as he transitioned into college at Missouri State University.He also served in the military in the U.S. Army Security Agency with the…

Maryland sports betting: $40M bet, $34M won

The house still comes out ahead, but for gamblers betting on sports in Maryland, there are big payouts. Maryland Lottery and Gaming reports the state’s eight sports wagering facilities handled $39.7 million in wagers in October, and paid out $34.5 million in winnings. The first full month for legal sports wagering in Maryland was in January, which saw $32.5 million in wagers. The October handle minus prizes left Maryland sportsbooks with a hold of $5.3 million, or 13.4% of wagers. Minus promotional play and other amounts, the taxable win was $5.2 million. Hogan, officials announce new initiatives to tackle crime

Federal, state and local officials gathered to discuss new efforts and resources to decrease crime in Baltimore at a news conference. Gov. Larry Hogan announced the launch of the "knock and talk" initiative focused in Baltimore neighborhoods experiencing high rates of violence with people on parole. The enhanced engagement initiative will consist of eight teams of officers, and parole and probation agents who will make unannounced home visits in specific districts. “Addressing violent crime has been an important focus of our administration, and a critical piece of that has been increasing collaboration and coordination,” Hogan said. “I want to thank U.S. Attorney Barron for…
