The annual South Cumberland Business and Civic Association Marsha L. Thomas Memorial Halloween parade will be held on Oct. 26. Those wishing to participate are urged to forward their application no later than Oct. 7. The parade will begin at 7 p.m. and follow the same route as in past years as it moves along East First Street, travels down Virginia Avenue and disbands on West Industrial Boulevard between Kirk Auto Sales and West Third Street. West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is warning consumers to be on guard against impostors calling to solicit monetary donations to aid those affected by Hurricane Ian in Florida. Fully-Involved Truck Fire on I-68
At approximately 6:40 a.m. Monday morning, a tractor-trailer fire was reported on eastbound Interstate 68 in the area of mile marker 44. The fire had escalated to a fully-involved fire, with emergency crews on the scene and rerouting traffic. WCBC News will update this story as more information become available.

Frostburg State University will be showing Bobcat pride from Oct. 6-9 for homecoming. The opening event is a pep rally in the Cordts PE Center Main Arena from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. South Street disturbance
On October 2nd, 2022, The Cumberland City Police responded to a South St residence in the for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers contacted a male and female inside at the home. After speaking with both subjects, it was learned that an argument broke out between the two. The argument then turned physical and the female began to strike and throw items at the male, causing minor injuries. As a result, Brittanie Nicole Nixon, 31, was placed under arrest for assault and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. She was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her…
Canal Place lease rates not changing
A recent request by a tenant at Canal Place for a lower lease rate has been rejected by the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority. There are lease rates established for businesses in the railway station center and a slightly lower rate for businesses operating at the Shops at Canal- as they pay utilities. The business making the request was not identified. California car emissions recommendations could apply to Maryland
California recently passed a bill that would end the sale of all petroleum-based cars by the year 2035. But under the federal Clean Air Act, not only does California set car emissions recommendations for itself, but their proposals also apply to several other states including Maryland. Lt Governor Boyd Rutherford said Maryland will ultimately decide on taking on California's emissions standards, but federal law could change by then. Rolling Mill project has been slowed by Supply Chain issues
When a groundbreaking ceremony for the Rolling Mill commercial development project was held in December of 2020- the hope was that some of those potential businesses would be open and operating by the fall of 2021. That did not occur however and with 2022 now winding down- next spring is the new ribbon cutting target. The center is being constructed between Park Street and Maryland Avenue and Emily and Williams streets, part of the Rolling Mill neighborhood.
