Morrisey To Give Opening Arguments in Opioid Case
West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey will present opening arguments Monday at a trial against three opioid drug manufacturers’ family of companies: Janssen, Teva and Allergan in Kanawha County Circuit Court. In the lawsuit, the Attorney General alleges the manufacturers helped fuel the opioid epidemic in West Virginia by individually engaging in strategic campaigns to deceive prescribers and misrepresent the risks and benefits of opioid painkillers. Contractors have begun rigging work for a new blue and gold paint job on the Charles Chuck Yeager Bridge on the West Virginia Turnpike. In June 2021, Southern Road and Bridge LLC was awarded a contract for $16,267,273.80 to completely repaint both northbound and southbound spans of the bridge. The winning bid was 11 percent lower than the engineer’s estimate for the project. On March 29th, 2022, The Cumberland City Police arrested Melissa Dawn Saunders, 38, of Cumberland MD. Saunders was arrested on an outstanding Bench Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court. Police Arrest One on Robbery, Assault Warrant
On March 29th, 2022, The Cumberland City Police arrested Arthur Lee Brown Jr, 22, of Cumberland MD. Brown was arrested on an outstanding Arrest Warrant stemming from an incident which occurred earlier in the same day. During that incident, Cumberland Police responded to a residence in the 600 block of E. First St. for the report of a disturbance. Upon arrival on scene, officers located the subjects involved, including Brown. Investigation revealed that Brown and another resident had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical. City Council Extends Arts District in Cumberland
The Cumberland Mayor and City Council Tuesday evening approved changing the name of the Arts and Entertainment District to Historic Downtown Cumberland. Julie Westendorf is the Executive Director of the Allegany Arts Council, and presented some of the history of the district… The current district not only includes downtown, but Canal Place and the Centre and Mechanic Street Corridors.
Buckel Talks Gerrymandered Congressional Map
Having their initial effort at a Congressional District Map declared unconstitutional, Maryland Democrats rolled out a replacement yesterday, which Republicans said was better, but far from what they would consider fair. Bryan Simonaire is the Senate Minority Leader, and says he and House Minority Leader Jason Buckel did not participate in drawing the new map. Democrats can override any possible veto of the map by Governor Larry Hogan. The judge in the case wants to see the replacement by Friday.
