Archaeologists Dig For Evidence of Cresap Fort

Excavations in search of Colonel Thomas Cresap’s fort in Oldtown are part of the Maryland Historic Trust’s Tyler Bastian Field Session through June 10.  Following up on work from 2020 and 2023, archaeologists will continue to seek evidence of the 18th century fort and dwelling of frontiersman Cresap, also known as the Maryland Monster. WIC 50th Anniversary

The Women, Infant, and Children’s food program, best known as WIC, turns 50 this year.  Established in 1974, and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, WIC provides vital nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and health and social services referrals to improve families' health outcomes. State, NASA Collaborate on Aerospace Economy

The Maryland Department of Commerce has a new memorandum of understanding with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, which also operates the Wallops Flight Facility on the Eastern Shore. The three-year agreement will support the aerospace economy in the state.  With the MOU, the state and NASA will collaborate to promote STEM education, industry development, and awareness of resources such as small business research and technology funding.  NASA and the state will co-host outreach events to foster innovation and education.

Project Managers Chosen For River Park

ROBBERY ARRESTS

On Thursday, May 30, 2024 at approximately 7:11 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 900 block of Hilltop Drive for an assault in progress.  Responding officers were advised by dispatch that the suspects had fled on foot.  Police contacted the victim who reported that she had been robbed of her purse at knife point by a male and a female.  The suspects were developed and identified as William Mosher III and Ashley Grove.  Mosher and Grove were located in the area and detained.  The stolen purse was also located in the area and…

CDS ARRESTS

On Thursday, May 30, 2024 at approximately 2:55 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department stopped a vehicle in the area of Park Street.  Officers contacted the occupants who were identified as Jeremy Skidmore and Stephanie Growden.  A police K-9 was utilized and alerted to the odor of drugs inside the vehicle.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and drug paraphernalia was recovered.  Skidmore and Growden were arrested and later released on a criminal citation. CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

On Thursday, May 30, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Nicholi Sneden.  The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on May 27, 2024.  On this date at approximately 6:55 PM, officers responded to the 200 block of Paca Street for the report of a medical emergency and possible assault.  Police arrived and contacted Nicholi Sneden. Sneden claimed that he had been assaulted by a female during an argument at a business in the 200 block of Greene Street.  Police learned that Sneden had committed an assault as well.  After further investigation,…

Local Representative for WV Attorney General Coming to Mineral County

The West Virginia Attorney General’s office will have a local representative in the area in the coming weeks to meet with residents.  Richard Dennis, a consumer outreach and compliance specialist with the office will host events at Romney Senior Center on June 4, Hardy County Senior Center on June 5, and will be set up at the Mineral County Fair in Fort Ashby nightly from 6 to 9pm, June 18-21.
