CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED

On Sunday, April 14, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Samantha Smith. The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on April 13, 2024. On this date, a citizen reported to the police that he was the victim of a fraud. He explained that his bank card was missing and there were unauthorized transactions on his account. After further investigation, a suspect was developed and identified as Samantha Smith. Police filed for charges against Smith at the District Court of Allegany County. Harrison Street Disorderly Conduct Arrest

On Saturday, April 13, 2024 at approximately 8:47 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to an establishment on E. Harrison Street for a trespassing complaint.  Officers contacted the staff who reported that Paul Massamore was causing a disturbance and refusing to leave.  Massamore had been contacted by police earlier and told not to cause any further disturbances.  Officers contacted Massamore and placed him under arrest.  He was transported to Central Booking where he is currently being held awaiting his initial appearance. UPMC Hosts Community Listening Session During Black Maternal Health Week

The Story of DelFest Sweet Appalachia documentary debuts

Screening of a documentary tracing the history of the annual DelFest festival was debuted in the Palace Theatre in Frostburg Thursday evening. The film, six years in the making was produced by students from Frostburg State University under the tutelage of director Annie Danzi and her assistant Sidney Beeman, along with editor Matt Watkins.  Several members of the McCoury family, including Del and his sons Rob and Ronnie, attended the showing of “Sweet Appalachia The Story of DelFest,” which was shown before a full house. ARREST WARRANT SERVED

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on John Wessells.  The warrant was issued as the result of a private citizen filing for charges against Wessells at the District Court of Allegany County.  Wessells was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.   ARRESTED:  John Stanchial Wessells                  AGE:  54               Cumberland, MD CHARGES:  Harass: A Course of Conduct, Telephone Misuse: Obscene, Electronic Comm Harass

DISORDERLY CONDUCT ARRESTS

On Saturday, April 13, 2024 at approximately 6:18 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to an establishment on Valley Street for a disturbance.   When officers arrived on scene, they observed Samantha Booker and Desirae Washington yelling and attempting to start fights with other people.  Booker and Washington were told multiple times by officers to leave the property.  Booker and Washington eventually went to the other side of the street.  During the investigation, an alleged victim reported that Washington had spit on him.  Booker and Washington began yelling again from across the street.  Booker and Washington were placed under…

WVDOH work crews working 24/7 to assess and clean up storm damage

West Virginia Division of Highways (WVDOH) road crews worked overnight and continue to work 24 hours a day to assess and clean up damage caused by a massive storm that moved through the state on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Most of the state had been under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. Thursday night. Tornados did not materialize, but high winds and a largely stationary storm front dumped record amounts of rainfall on the Kanawha Valley and other parts of West Virginia, leading to mud and rockslides, downed trees and flash flooding.
