Columbia Street Assault Arrest

On Sunday, February 4, 2024 at approximately 8:27 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 100 block of Columbia Street for a disturbance.  The caller reported that there was a male subject with a machete.  When police arrived, they observed Elias Harr in a verbal altercation with two other subjects.  One of the other subjects kicked the machete into the street and advised officers that he got the machete from Harr.  Police collected the machete and interviewed the involved parties.  The alleged victim in the incident reported that Harr pulled the machete out and threatened to kill…

OBSTRUCTING & HINDERING ARREST

On Sunday, February 4, 2024 at approximately 5:55 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the first block of W. First Street for a disturbance.  Police contacted the female causing the disturbance and identified her as Dawn Fishel.  Fishel was disturbing the peace of others and provided a false name to officers.  She was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  Fishel was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and posted a $1,000 unsecured personal bond. BENCH WARRANTS SERVED

On Sunday, February 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served two bench warrants on Jules Schwarz Jr.  The warrants were issued as the result of Schwarz failing to comply with orders of the court.  He has original charges of Driving without a license, Disorderly Conduct, and three counts of Assault-2nd Degree.   Schwarz was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center without bond. North Mechanic Street House Fire

Cumberland Fire Department responded to the 300 North Mechanic Street Sunday night just after 9PM. Fire crews reported fire and smoke showing from the multi-family structure. North Mechanic Street was closed at Valley Street as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. There were no reported injuries and the fire was declared out at 9:30PM. Numerous volunteer fire companies assisted city firefighters at the scene or by manning the city's central fire station. Columbia Gas and Potomac Edison also were called to the scene as well as the Cumberland Fire Marshal.

Decatur Street Theft

On Saturday, February 3, 2024 at approximately 11:00 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department took the report of a theft that occurred in the 100 block of Decatur Street.  The victim reported that someone stole a black suitcase that had been left on the sidewalk.  Anyone with any information related to this incident is encouraged to call the Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600 or the Allegany-Mineral County Crimesolvers at 877-722-4307.  Callers can remain anonymous.  

Gov. Justice announces FY 2024 revenue collections $458 million ahead of estimate

Gov. Justice announced that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for January 2024, the seventh month of Fiscal Year 2024, came in at $531 million, which is $52.3 million above the official estimate. Cumulative collections for Fiscal Year 2024 of more than $3.297 billion stand at $458.7 million ahead of the cumulative estimate. Women’s Distance Medley Relay Breaks 41-Year Old Record at Youngstown Invite

Frostburg State Women's Track & Field team competed at the Youngstown Mid-Major Invitational over the course of Friday and Saturday, turning in a number of personal records during the meet. The distance medley relay team of freshmen Paige Etnoyer, Isabella Mastria, and Emily Wishart and sophomore Alana Dyce-Giraud set a new school record in 13:02.51, which was good enough for third place and breaking the previous mark of 13:12.50 set in 1982.
