Tourism Has Economic Impact

Maryland has seen an uptick in the economic impact of tourism in the state. The newest reporting shows that visitor volume has increased to 43.5 million visitors in 2022, after a pandemic-related dip the two previous years. The latest number is an increase over pre-pandemic levels.  The total economic impact of the tourism industry was over $30 billion dollars with $2.3 billion in state and local tax revenues generated and $19 billion in visitor spending with transportation, lodging, and food leading the way.

PA Law To Provide for Autism Benefits

Governor Josh Shapiro and Pennsylvania Insurance Department announced that starting on January 1, 2024, the Shapiro Administration will require all commercial insurers to meet their obligations under Pennsylvania law to provide coverage for autism benefits. The PID will require insurers offering commercial health insurance policies that include coverage for autism services to handle claims for those services in a manner that complies with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act. DISORDERLY CONDUCT ARREST

On Saturday, November 11, 2023 at approximately 8:52 AM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department was on patrol in the area of N. Centre Street at Baltimore Street when he was stopped by a concerned citizen.  The officer exited his police vehicle and could hear a person screaming.  The officer looked in the direction of the screaming and observed a male subject later identified as Nicholas Craig.  He was standing on his toes, flexing his hands, and yelling.  Craig’s actions were disturbing the peace of others in the area.  Craig was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. …

WARRANT’S SERVED

On Saturday, November 11, 2023, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Robert Charlton III.  The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred earlier in the day at approximately 3:03 PM when police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of Independence Street.  Officers contacted the resident who reported that she had been arguing with Charlton.  She alleged that Charlton has been assaulting her and threatening her with a shotgun.  A shotgun was seized from the residence.  It was determined that Charlton was prohibited from possessing firearms.  Charges were filed against Charlton at the…

Ten First Place Finishes Lead Women’s Swimming Over Ashland in Home Victory

Frostburg State Women's Swimming team remain undefeated, taking their second home meet of the year by a final score of 163-96 over Ashland on Saturday afternoon. Frostburg earned 10 first place finishes on the day, starting with the team of sophomore Gabriela Betancourt, juniors Natasha Paciello and Kendall Hooper, and senior Liz Perry taking first in the 400 meter medley relay with a 4:42.32 time. Ahead of the holiday season, the Maryland Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office is inviting friends and families of all crash victims to the 20th Annual Maryland Remembers event Tuesday, November 21, in Annapolis. Maryland experienced 564 fatalities on Maryland roads last year and would like to honor all of those victim’s families whose lives were changed forever.
