Local Representative for WV Attorney General Coming to Mineral County
The West Virginia Attorney General’s office will have a local representative in the area in the coming weeks to meet with residents. Richard Dennis, a consumer outreach and compliance specialist with the office will host events at Romney Senior Center on June 4, Hardy County Senior Center on June 5, and will be set up at the Mineral County Fair in Fort Ashby nightly from 6 to 9pm, June 18-21.

On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Collin Taylor. The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on May 18, 2024. On this date at approximately 7:19 PM, officers responded to the 300 block of Furnace Street for the report of dirt bikes riding up and down the street. Until June 9, those who donate blood, plasma, or platelets will receive a 40th anniversary Tetris t-shirt. WV Department of Health Urges Protection Against Lyme Disease
The West Virginia Department of Health is urging residents to take preventive measures against Lyme disease as ticks are more active this time of year. West Virginia has been designated as a high incidence Lyme disease state since 2017. “Lyme disease is a serious issue that could be devastating to your health and well-being if left untreated,” said Dr. Matthew Christiansen, State Health Officer. He went on to encourage citizens to take precautions against the infection and protect themselves outdoors especially in areas where ticks are most commonly found.
EZ Pass Users Targeted by Scammers
The State of Maryland’s EZ-Pass users are the latest to be targeted in telephone scams. The Attorney General’s office is reporting residents are receiving text messages that falsely indicate money is owed for unpaid tolls. The message includes a link to settle the outstanding amount. The AG’s office advises individuals not to click any links or provide financial information. The legitimate link for EZ Pass is driveezmd.com.
Governor Vetoes Bill That Would Lift Estate Notices in Newspapers
Governor Moore decided to use his veto power on House Bill 1258, which would have lifted the requirement that estate notices be published in newspapers.
