On Friday, April 5th, The Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Park St for the report of an assault. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted two victims, one of which had visible signs of injury. The two alleged that they had been assaulted by Levi Neal Jones, 25, after an argument inside the home turned physical. As a result of the investigation, Jones was placed under arrest. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held…

On Friday, April 5th, The Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Kelsey Jo Connors, 30, of Cumberland MD. The summons was in reference to an incident that occurred on March 30th, in the area of the Western Maryland Train Station. During that incident, it is alleged that Connors assaulted another subject, striking them in the face during a verbal altercation. Connors was served the summons and released, pending trial in District Court. Arrested: Kelsey Jo Connors           Age: 30 Charges: Assault 2nd Degree.

On Friday, April 5th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Dylan Andrew Davin, 27, of Cumberland MD. Davin was arrested on an active Bench Warrant issued by both the Anne Arundel County District Court. The warrant alleged Davin violated the terms and conditions of his probation that had been placed upon him due to a previous conviction on assault and disorderly conduct. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an Initial Appearance where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. He is currently being held on $20,000 bond. CSX Transportation's unveiling locomotive 1852, its 12th Heritage locomotive with a Western Maryland paint design including the railroads Fireball logo.  Western Maryland railroad started in 1852 in Baltimore, Maryland and eventually became part of the Chessie system which then became CSX providing freight and coal service to Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. CSX Transportation Heritage fleet has grown to a dozen units representing predecessor lines such as Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac Baltimore & Ohio, New York Central and more.

Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is beginning a project on Monday, April 8 at 8 p.m., to improve the ride quality on eastbound I-70 between MD 66 (Mapleville Road) and Crystal Falls Drive near Beaver Creek. The pavement patching work should be complete by 5 a.m., April 9, weather permitting. Should weather delay the improvement project, crews will work April 9 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., April 10. Drivers can expect alternating single-lane closures on eastbound I-70 within the project limits. Allegany Museum and Embassy Theatre announce an upcoming murder mystery event on the evenings of Thursday, April 11, Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13. Written and directed by Tom Valentine, this interactive experience in the museum ballroom features an eight-member cast mingling throughout the crowd before the performance and dropping clues. Refreshments will be available at a cash bar, and charcuterie boards will be set at each table. Attendees will be invited to guess the murderer by ballot at the end of the performance. Gov. Jim Justice today announced that First Lady Cathy Justice underwent successful hip replacement surgery at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. "Our family is very thankful Cathy's surgery went extremely well. I want to thank Dr. Dietz and all of the amazing folks at WVU Medicine for their great work and professionalism. I also want to thank everybody for their thoughts and prayers, and above all else, I thank God for today's outcome," Gov. Justice said. First Lady Justice is resting and in good spirits. Wednesday, April 3, 2024 Daniel Cardenas II, 27 of Cumberland, was arrested on a District Court Bench Warrant out of Frederick County for Failure to Appear for a Violation of Probation Hearing. His original conviction was for: Assault-Second Degree where he was sentenced to 10-years incarceration with all but 66-days suspended, and 3-years Supervised Probation along with restitution. The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge has caused far-ranging effects for businesses throughout the state. The Small Business Administration has opened Economic Injury Disaster Loans for those businesses that may be affected by this incident. Small businesses and private nonprofit organizations can now apply for a loan of up to $2 million to help overcome any temporary loss of revenue stemming from the bridge collapse. Loans may be used to pay normal operating expenses such as fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable and other bills that can’t be paid because of the disruption.
