WVU BOG to vote on Campus Carry Rule

WVU’s Board of Governors will be voting on the proposed Campus Carry rule, designed to comply with the Campus Self Defense Act of 2023, during its April 12 meeting. Burglary Arrest on Arch St.

On April 6th, 2024 at approximately 9:00 PM officers of the Cumberland Police Department observed an unsecured door in the 400 block of Arch Street. Officers learned that no one should be inside the residence and conducted a check of the residence, where they located Tyler Westfall inside. Westfall had been previously charged being inside of this residence and he was placed under arrest. During a subsequent search, items of paraphernalia were located on his person. Cumberland Police Make Assault Arrest

On Saturday April 6th, 2024 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business in the ten block of Queen City Drive for a reported assault in progress. Upon officer’s arrival they observed Daquan Donaldson to be holding the victim down on the ground. Officers interviewed the victim and learned that Donaldson had thrown him to the ground and assaulted them. Officers additionally interviewed witnesses in the area and they confirmed that Donaldson was the aggressor in the incident, and that he had created a disturbance. Disorderly Conduct Arrest on Maryland Ave

On April 6th, 2024 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business the 400 block of Maryland Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon officer’s arrival they learned that Lamont Gross was refusing to leave the store. Gross was vacated from the property, and a short time later officers were dispatched to the area again for Gross. Gross was advised by officers to discontinue creating disturbances, and he began to leave the area. Henderson Ave CDS Arrest

On Friday, April 5th, The Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a BMW in the area of Henderson Ave. During the course of the stop, a police K9 was utilized to conduct a free-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle which alerted to the presence of CDS inside the vehicle. During a subsequent search of the vehicle and it’s occupants, 2 of the occupants were found to be in possession of CDS paraphernalia. Virginia Ave Arrest

On Friday, April 5th, The Cumberland Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Virginia Ave for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival on scene, officers discovered that a Toyota SUV being driven by Richard David Potcner, 44, of Cumberland Md, had struck the rear end of a parked Subaru. Potcner then exited his vehicle and made contact with a nearby resident who had exited their home after hearing the crash. ACHS Community Archeology Lab Days

During Maryland Archaeology Month, a partnership of the Jane Gates Heritage House, the Western Maryland Archaeology Society, the Allegany County Historical Society and Oxbow Cultural Research will offer April archaeological lab days. On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 4pm at 400 North Mechanic Street. aprilparticipants will help catalog objects recovered from excavations at the 1867 Jane Gates House back in 2019. Everyone is welcome to learn about artifacts found during the excavations, how the soil was screened, and how the artifacts were collected. Trespassing Arrest

On Friday, April 5th, The Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Polk St for a trespassing complaint. Upon arrival on scene, officers contacted the residents of the home. The residents advised that a female subject they had just met was in their home and was refusing to leave. When officers contacted the female suspect, she refused to provide officers with a name or leave the residence.
