***Adult Arrest*** On Friday, March 8th, 2024, the Cumberland City Police arrested Ashley Marie Silvious, 36, of Cumberland MD. Silvious was arrested on two active Bench Warrants issued by the Allegany County District Court. Both warrants were issued as a result of Silvious failing to appear for trials on previous traffic related charges. Silvious was taken before a District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on $5,000 bond. Baltimore Street Bridge Closed Monday & Tuesday
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Carl Belt Inc., would like to notify the public that the Baltimore Street Bridge will be closed to thru traffic on Monday, March 11th, at 7am through Tuesday, March 12th, at 5pm. The bridge will be reopened to one-way traffic flowing from Mechanic Street to Greene Street. A detour will be in place to direct vehicles around the site, during the temporary closing. Weekly Downtown Construction Update
Here is this week's Downtown Cumberland Construction Update: By the end of Friday, all Silva cells for the project will be installed. Street pavers were started on South Liberty Street (because they needed to adjust a few things on North Liberty). Next week: All underground work for the project will be complete (electric and fiber are all that is left) Paver installation continues on Liberty Concrete work starts on Centre Wall restoration on the Mechanic St side of the CBIZ building

End Fentanyl Act Passes U.S. House
The U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressmen David Trone (D-MD) and Michael Guest’s (R-MS) bipartisan and bicameral Eradicating Narcotic Drugs and Formulating Effective New Tools to Address National Yearly Losses of Life (END FENTANYL) Act. DelFest Re-Signs For More Years of Festival
Stan Strickland, musician Del McCoury’s Business Manager, made a special announcement Thursday on WCBC – the official DelFest Information Station, about the annual DelFest music festival held at the Allegany County Fairgrounds… McCoury was in town to visit with students enrolled in the Social Media Marketing program through Allegany College of Maryland, a curriculum set up with Rainmaker Music Management. The annual 4-day festival takes place over Memorial Day weekend.
Daylight Savings = Drowsy Drivers
Daylight Savings Time takes place this weekend and Triple-A is reminding motorists that there will be darker mornings and drowsy drivers. If a driver has an early-morning commute, AAA recommends adjusting sleep schedules – aim for at least seven hours of sleep nightly. Watch out for pedestrians, especially children who will be on their way to school and may be hard to see in the early hours.
West Virginia Cracks Down On Left-Lane Drivers
One of the more interesting bills in the West Virginia General Assembly this year has been HB5237 that would prohibit drivers from “hanging out” in the left or passing lane of a highway. Such drivers often impede traffic flow and can create a safety hazard. There are exceptions, such as when passing another vehicle, left turn exits, or construction in the right lane. The bill has passed in both chambers with amendments.
