Troy McKenzie DelFest Academy Sponsorship Foundation open to 3 Counties
The Del McCoury family and friends of the late Troy McKenzie have joined together to offer scholarships to DelFest Academy. The Troy McKenzie DelFest Academy Sponsorship Foundation has been created to give five local musicians the opportunity to attend the academy for free and passes for the four-day festival. DelFest Academy begins Sunday evening May 19th and runs through Wednesday, May 22nd with the festival getting underway the following day at the Allegany County Fairgrounds. On March 9, 2024, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Anthony James Spencer. The original charges were out of Pennsylvania. Cumberland Construction Update
Melinda Kelleher, Executive Director Downtown Development Commission says all Silva cells for the project are now installed. Street pavers were started on South Liberty Street (because they needed to adjust a few things on North Liberty). Next week underground work for the project will be complete (electric and fiber are all that is left), Paver installation continues on Liberty and Concrete work starts onCentre. Wall restoration on the Mechanic St side of the CBIZ building will begin Monday.

Frostburg State Women's Tennis team moved back into a winning record in their season, defeating Bloomsburg 5-2 on the road Saturday evening. Bishop Walsh Boys Win Christian Tournament in Ohio
Bishop Walsh won its third straight game and a tournament title Saturday night with a 74-62 win over LIGHT Homeschool of Kentucky The game was tied at 38 at halftime before the Spartans broke it open in the second half. Rodion Horbasenko led the Spartans with 35 points and David DiNola added 27. The tournament is run by the National Christian School Athletic Association and the majority of the games were held at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Local Governments to Help Fund New Downtown Hotel
City and county officials appear to be on board for funding a downtown hotel. Saturday’s Cumberland Times-News reports that the new Willis Hotel will be at the corner of Liberty and Baltimore Streets at the former Manhattan building. The city of Cumberland will contribute $100,000 with $250,000 coming from both Allegany County and the Senator George C. Edwards Fund.
