Emergency Water Shut Off Downtown

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department, on behalf of Triton Construction, would like to notify the public that there will be an emergency water outage today for customers on Baltimore Street between Centre Street and Queen City Drive. This outage is due to a waterline break. As of 10AM, water should be off in this area. If you currently still have water in your building, it should remain. The outage is expected to last until 4PM. Additional information will be released in the event anything changes.

Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Report

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police have combined resources to target open and active warrants. As a result, the following individuals have been apprehended. Chamber of Commerce Throws Full Support to Riverside Park Project

Campaign Finance Reports

Year-end campaign finance reports for the Republican candidates vying for the open District 6 Congressional seat show that Tom Royals, a former combat aviator, has raised the most money with almost $293,000 raised and $95,000 cash-on-hand.  Mariela Roca had raised over $165,000 by the end of the year.  The list also includes Neil Parrott whose report shows over $118,000 raised, but the Hagerstown resident has not yet filed to run for the office, according to the Board of Elections website.  The filing deadline is Friday.

Repubs Draft Student Protection Act

House Republicans are drafting a bill – the Student Protection Act -  in response to reports of a convicted juvenile sex offender attending high school in Baltimore City.  The 15-year had pleaded guilty to second-degree rape in Harford County – the victim was three years old. Instead of incarceration, probation and counseling were recommended.  This scenario does not sit well with Delegate Nino Mangione who told reporters he started the legislation minutes after hearing the story…
