Fund For Bryan Gowans Available for Donations

WCBC’s Bryan Gowans is continuing to re-hab from a stroke suffered in March of this year.  He has not been able to return to work and is currently recovering at a local nursing home.  The family would like to bring Bryan home to finish his recovery efforts but financial help is needed. Work Begins on I-68 Bridges Near Hancock

An $18.2 million project starts this week to replace two bridges on I-68 over Creek Road in Hancock. The current bridges, initially constructed in 1978, are nearing the end of their service life. The project is expected to be completed in 2025, weather permitting. Traffic in both east- and west-bound directions will be reduced to single travel lanes, with barrier walls installed for the duration of the project.

Maddox Confirmed As District Judge

City Has Goal Retreat

The City of Cumberland held a special retreat for department heads, known as a SWOT meeting.  SWOT stands for Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats. The off-site meeting allowed employees to do goal-setting exercises and look ahead strategically for planning purposes and was facilitated by City Administrator Jeff Silka.  Mayor Ray Morriss said it was a productive exercise for everyone involved…   

Questions On Edwards Fund Closed Sessions

Recently questions have arisen concerning the procedures followed by the board of the Senator George Edwards Fund.  The board has met four times since August, each time moving into closed sessions, discussing applicant information or personnel issues.  A source has reached out to WCBC indicating that the rules of Maryland’s Open Meetings or “Sunshine Laws” are being violated.  WCBC spoke with Senator Mike McKay, a non-voting member of the Edwards board and he says the board is operating within the rules when discussing topics in closed sessions…    McKay says they are following the Open Meetings procedures, even though they…

WV Gets Grants for Senior Centers

Governor Jim Justice announced over $3 million in grant funding for West Virginia Senior Centers, with priority to those centers most in need of additional aid.  Justice said that senior citizens in the state need the resources available to them through such centers and some have become dependent on the offerings…    

Adams Gets Official AGT Audition

A Keyser teen is set to see if he can get a big break on the television show “America’s Got Talent.” Seventeen-year-old Christian Adams will have an audition in front of show judges Lionel Ritchie, Luke Bryan, and Kati Perry in Nashville this month.  Adams has already had several auditions with producers of the show, leading to the Nashville appointment. Evans plays in the local area with the band Centerfire Bluegrass. The next season of “America’s Got Talent” begins in 2024.
