On October 30, 2023, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served a Criminal Summons on Brittany Lynn Waltman. The Criminal summons was issued for an incident that occurred on October 16, 2023. The complainant stated that Ms. Waltman threw a baby bottle at the storm door shattering the glass. The complainant applied for charges on October 21, 2023. Ms. Waltman was served and released. Arrest: Brittany Lynn Waltman, age 27, Cumberland Maryland. Charges: Destruction of property, Disorderly Conduct and Disturbing the Peace.

On October 30, 2023, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Woodrow Matthew Dean. The Arrest Warrant was issued by the District Court on October 27, 2023. Dean was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center with No pre-set bond. Dean was awaiting his initial appearance with the Court Commissioner. Claysburg Woman Sentenced In Murder of Husband
A Bedford County woman will spend the rest of her life behind bars with no parole. Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the sentencing of 76-year-old Nancy Focht who was found guilty in September of murdering her husband, shooting him in a shed on their property in Claysburg. Focht had changed her story about what happened several times since her arrest in 2018, including during her trial. Jurors also found her guilty of tampering with evidence.
Edwards Fund Gets Finance Update

Cause Found In Fayette Street Fire
The Maryland State Fire Marshal has determined the cause of a fire on Fayette Street on Friday was accidental in nature. Smoke alarms in the residence at 681 Fayette alerted a neighbor to the fire in a second-floor bathroom. Responding units took just five minutes to bring the fire under control. The preliminary cause was determined to be the failure of a six-plug electric strip in the bathroom.
New Business Slated for LaVale
The Times-News is reporting that LaVale is set to have two new fast food restaurants in the near future. Business man Dharmesh Kotak who owns the local Dunkin’ Donuts franchise rights in Cumberland, LaVale, and Frostburg has plans to locate both a Sonic and Checkers Drive-In at LaVale locations. Kotak also recently opened Mountain City Liquors in Frostburg as well as the Hershey Ice Cream Stand on North Centre Street. Kotak is planning to open another liquor store where Excelo Liquors was located.
Memorial Hospital Housing Site Work Progressing
It might look like nothing is happening, but there has been plenty of work going on behind the scenes on what is known as the Memorial Hospital Property along Memorial Avenue. The developer, Raz Development from Bethesda, has been working with Cumberland Economic Development and the City on site surveys, title searches and other due diligence needed to get the project underway. Hagerstown Man Arrested for Saturday’s Shooting
On October 28, 2023, at 1:40 am the Cumberland Police Department received a report of a shooting in an alley in the Mechanic Street area. Upon arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene with one 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers began providing medical aid along with the Cumberland Fire Department; however, the victim later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Responding officers from all area agencies along with the Maryland State Police helicopter began identifying people running from the scene. Of those stopped, was 24-year-old Devonte Warfield of Hagerstown. Devonte Warfield was found to be in possession of cocaine…
