Cumberland Annual leaf collection
City of Cumberland will begin its annual leaf collection on Monday, October 30th. The Street Maintenance Division of Public Works will handle the collection as in years past. Residents in the area scheduled for pickup during a particular week should rake their leaves the weekend before the collection. Leaves should be raked into piles to the edge of the sidewalk adjacent to the street, but not into the street, to avoid clogging the storm sewer collection basins. Anti-Trafficking Program Launched in WV
On October 10th, the WV Secretary of State's Office officially launched West Virginia Businesses Against Trafficking (WVBAT). WVBAT is a statewide coalition of businesses and business owners who will use their storefronts and facilities to raise awareness of the state’s “You Can” campaign against human trafficking. The “You Can” campaign prioritizes public awareness because knowledge is our greatest asset in fighting human trafficking. Businesses can support victims by providing access to potentially lifesaving information available in public areas they frequent. The Cumberland Police Department, in conjunction with the administrations of both Allegany and Fort Hill High Schools, would like to announce the following traffic pattern changes for the annual Homecoming Game which will be played this Saturday, October 28th, at Greenway Avenue Stadium. Justice Steps Up For Battle
The Governor of West Virginia has now entered the fight with the NCAA to overturn the waiver denial for WVU basketball player RaeQuan Battle. West Virginia University has sought a waiver for Battle to enable him to play for Mountaineer basketball team, but the NCAA has denied it, saying that Battle had used his one-time transfer when he moved from Washington State to Montana State. City Police Supporting Cancer Awareness
Officers from the Cumberland Police Department are taking part in Cancer Awareness for the months of October and November. Officers participating submitted a donation to help raise funds that to be donated to the Schwab Family Cancer Center at UPMC Western Maryland. During the month of October, Officers displayed pink ribbons, bracelets and headbands to support cancer awareness. For the upcoming month of November, Officers will be allowed to grow facial hair, and some will wear different ribbons to support cancer awareness.
