Baltimore Street Bridge Closed Today
Baltimore Street Bridge will be closed to thru traffic on Thursday, October 12th, at 7am to 12pm in order to perform necessary construction in the area. A detour will be in place to direct vehicles around the site.

FSU’s Dr. Travis Honored With Inaugural Award
Frostburg State University’s Vice President of Student Affairs has been recognized by The Daily Record, a publication that focuses on law and government. Dr. Artie Travis has been awarded as one of the inaugural “Veterans in Business and Law” winners. The award honors military veterans living and working in Maryland and in a senior leadership position at a company or firm. Dr. Travis previously served in the Army as a Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Communications for the 421st Medical Evacuation Air Ambulance Company.
WV Mental/Substance Programs Get Grant Funds
West Virginia’s Department of Human Resources was awarded more than $33 million in federal funding for mental health and substance abuse programs. Funding in the form of grants will be given to projects that work with adults with serious mental illness who also have physical health conditions, as well as those with chronic disease and have a substance use disorder. Monies will go to support systems for homeless transition-to-housing and treatment services and screening programs to assess and treat maternal mental health. Also, over $1 million will be provided to improve capacity for the 988 Suicide and Crisis hotline service….
Water Interruption Set for Lincoln, Marietta Streets Today
On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., water service will be interrupted on Lincoln & Marietta Streets for a valve replacement. The area affected includes Lincoln Street from Victoria Street to Marietta Street and Marietta Street from Frederick Street to Bedford Street.

Bridge Saga Continues
The saga of “The Bridges of Cumberland, Maryland” continues to be dramatic. Three main bridges on West Side are damaged – two by CSX trains.
