New pacemaker placement procedure offers hope for patients with sleep apnea

 WVU Medicine is the first in the state to offer a new pacemaker placement procedure for patients who suffer from sleep apnea and have not responded to other treatments. The procedure, which involves implanting a pacemaker-like device in the neck, can help reduce the frequency and severity of sleep apnea episodes. Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that occurs when breathing stops and starts during sleep. This can cause snoring, gasping for air, and restless sleep. Sleep apnea can also lead to daytime sleepiness, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Most importantly, sleep apnea can exacerbate pre-existing cardiovascular and respiratory conditions. Faith and Blue Event Today

The Maryland State Police are celebrating National Faith and Blue Weekend across the region with faith-based organizations.  The event was launched to build safer, stronger communities through partnerships between law enforcement and local churches and community groups.  Locally, the event is taking place with a community gathering on Sunday beginning at 2pm at LaVale Baptist church, located next to the Maryland State Police Barracks in LaVale. West Virginia Department of Tourism celebrates the arrival of autumn with the first fall foliage report of the year. Football Takes Down UNC Pembroke on Homecoming

 Frostburg State Football defeated UNC Pembroke at home on homecoming weekend by a score of 31-21. With the colors of Fall starting to show at Bobcat Stadium, the Bobcat alumni showed up in a big way to support FSU. Frostburg won the toss and decided to defer the ball to the second half. UNCP took the ball methodically down the field working through their opening drive with success. WV Grants for Sexual Assault Victims

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced more than $800,000 in grants to the state’s Foundation for Rape Information and Services.   The Sexual Assault Services Program was created by the Violence Against Women and Department of justice Reauthorization Act of 2005.  The Grant money will be used to support rape crisis centers, identify, provide and expand direct services to victims of sexual assault along with monitoring and technical assistance to other eligible programs within the state.

Failure to obey and disorderly conduct Arrest

On October 6, 2023 Officers of the Cumberland Police Department observed a subject sleeping in the front of a local business. The subject was identified as Tyler Dixon. Officers informed Mr. Dixon that he needed clean up his trash and leave the area. Mr. Dixon became irate and began yelling obscenities at the Officers. Officers continued asking Mr. Dixon to leave the area and refrain from yelling. Dixon continued acting in a disorderly manner by yelling as he walked past other business and pedestrians. New YouTube Camera overlooks Cumberland terminal subdivision Live

A new Virtual Railfan camera is live in south Cumberland. It's a partnership with the Cumberland Outdoor Club, Skypacket Network, WCBC radio and Virtual Railfan. South Cumberland camera overlooks the Cumberland terminal subdivision and will feature CSX and Amtrak trains and occasional views of Western Maryland Scenic Railroad trains crossing the Potomac River. Virtual Railfan operates a video platform that streams live railroad cameras from across the US to millions of viewers's on YouTube. Baltimore Street Construction Update

City of Cumberland construction update from Melinda Kelleher, Executive Director Downtown Development Commission reports the first section of Silva Cells were installed this week, on the northern (CBIZ) side of the block between Mechanic St and Liberty St. Next week, the operation will shift to the southern side of the same block. Expect interruptions in pedestrian flow between the WCBC building and the Manhattan Social. There will be short-term sidewalk closures throughout this area as construction progresses up the street. Please be patient with the construction crew and utilize rear entrances where possible.
