Winning Bidder Not A Favorite With West Side
The Allegany County Commissioner's meeting was filled with citizens not happy with the choice of developer for the housing project on the land where Allegany High School once stood. Six citizens spoke against the decision to go with D.R. Horton Builders, mostly concerned with quality of building and the absence of intergenerational housing and greenspace concepts. Citizens who spoke also asked for more due-diligence in future projects including community listening sessions for input and to avoid being "hoodwinked" by companies who have not done research into the community.

Several events this weekend will dictate traffic changes around the City of Cumberland. Beginning at Noon on Friday, Centre Street from Dexter’s Alley to Frederick Street will be closed for Friday After Five events. Temporary Water Outage Today
The City of Cumberland Engineering Department would like to notify the public of a temporary water outage on Thursday, October 5th. Customers that will be affected include those fed from Baltimore Street between Park Street and Waverly Terrace, as well as customers fed from Waverly Terrace and Ridgeway Terrace. East First Street Assault Arrest
On 10/01/2023 at approximately 2:00 PM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to the area of East First Street and Seymour Street for an assault. Upon arrival officers contacted a juvenile victim who advised Mark Coleman had punched them and then threatened them with a knife. Officers observed minor injuries on the juvenile. Coleman was not located at that time. The officer submitted an application of charges to the District Court Commissioner and an Arrest Warrant was issued. On 10/05/2023 Coleman was arrested and taken to the Allegany County Detention Center. Coleman received a hearing and was held without bond….
Queen City Drive Theft Arrest
On 10/04/2023 at approximately 8:45 PM the Cumberland City Police were dispatched to a business on Queen City Drive. An employee advised that a female shoplifter had stolen a large amount of clothing from the store. The officer searched the area and located Penny Marshall who matched the description provided. The officer observed Marshall to be in possession of stolen property. Marshall was placed under arrest and transported to the police station.
