MD Attorney General Will Release Updated Report

The Circuit Court for Baltimore City authorized the Office for the Attorney General to release a revised, un-redacted version of the Report on Child Sexual Abuse in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  The new version of the report will be released in late September. The original report was released in April with over 30 names redacted or blacked out by order of the court to shield identities of ten alleged abusers who had not previously been publicly accused of child abuse. Water Pressure Issues Due to Reservoir Work

A caller to the Dave Norman program on Wednesday was concerned about low water pressure in the Frederick Street area.  Citizens may have noticed that hydrants are being flushed throughout the city, also affecting water pressure.  According to Robert Smith, City Engineer for Cumberland, the bleeding of the hydrants is being done in preparation for needed repairs to the Fort Hill reservoir at Constitution Park.   Since the tank at Lake Gordon is at a higher elevation, the City needs to open the hydrants to stabilize the water pressure in the lines… Smith said the work on the reservoir should begin…

Allegany County Transit No Service Today

Allegany County Transit will be closed today for mandatory employee training. Services will resume on Friday, August 25, 2023.

Liberty Street will be closed today

Liberty Street will be closed to thru traffic between Frederick Street and Pershing Street from 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Thursday, August 24th. Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the road closure. Pedestrian traffic will also be re-routed around the construction at the intersection with Baltimore Street.

Open and Active Warrants Served

The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police – Barrack C have combined resources to target open and active warrants. As a result, the following individuals have been apprehended. William Edward Ravenscroft Jr., 35, of Cumberland. was arrested on a Circuit Court Bench Warrant for Violation of Probation. His original charges include: CDS-Possession Not Cannabis and CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia. He is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending a bail review. City Putting Fort Hill Potable Water Reservoir Offline

The City of Cumberland Engineering Department would like to notify the public that the Fort Hill Potable Water Reservoir will be offline until October 6th, 2023. This is so a contractor can replace the liner and floating cover on the reservoir. In order for the City’s water system to operate properly while the reservoir is offline, strategic hydrants have been opened throughout the city to help bleed the air out of the system and relieve the higher pressures. State Applying for Federal Grant to Improve Highways

Maryland’s Department of Transportation is pursuing Federal grant monies for improvement to the heavily congested Interstate 495 and I-270 highway corridors.  The program envisions opportunities to improve transit and multimodal access and spur economic growth on I-495 and I-270.  Improvements planned include express bus options in Maryland, ridesharing incentives and parallel transportation improvements along the MARC Brunswick Line.  A comprehensive planning study for I-270 is also planned.  Open houses in Montgomery and Frederick counties are planned for the fall where the public can provide input.

West Virginia Resources Partner Against Drugs and Alcohol

The West Virginia Department of Human Resources Bureau for Behavioral Health and The West Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Administration are partnering to help students with prevention messages about alcohol and substance abuse.  BBH leads a statewide substance use prevention network that works with schools and communities to implement effective prevention strategies. Programs build student resilience and encourage healthy alternatives to underage drinking and substance abuse.  The Alcohol Beverage Control’s Fall Safety Plan starts in September with the annual No School Spirits PSA contest. They will also be traveling the state visiting high schools to share the DUI Simulator program.
