April 3rd, 2013 by WCBC Radio

On 04/02/2013 32 year old Peter Joseph Koenigsberg, Cumberland, was arrested by members of the C3I Warrant/Fugitive Unit in connection with a series of residential burglaries which occurred in early November 2012.

On 11/06/2012 three separate residences were entered in the Louisiana Avenue area of Cumberland during the early morning hours and several items were stolen. One of the residents heard a loud noise, but did not discover anything missing until morning when they found that a purse had been stolen.

The second resident was awakened when they heard someone walking around inside their residence. When the suspect entered the victim’s bedroom, the victim screamed and the suspect fled. The victim discovered that cash had been removed from the residence.

The third resident was also awakened at the time of entry into their home. When the elderly female resident confronted the intruder, the suspect displayed a knife and demanded all her money. During the confrontation, the victim suffered a cut to a finger. The suspect then grabbed several bottles of medication and a pair of binoculars and fled the residence.

The Cumberland Police responded to the scene and requested the assistance of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I). As a result of investigation, a suspect was developed which led C3I Investigators to obtain a search warrant for the suspect’s residence. When Investigators executed the search warrant they recovered some of the reported stolen items.

Investigators were able to obtain an arrest warrant for 35 year old Jerome Joseph Phillips III at that time. Phillips was apprehended in West Virginia, and has since been returned to Allegany County and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending trial.

Continued investigation also developed Koenigsberg as a suspect. Investigators learned that Phillips and Koenigsberg took turns entering the residences while the other remained outside acting as a lookout.

The case was presented to the Allegany County Grand Jury and an indictment charging both with numerous counts, including several counts of burglary, theft, and related charges, was handed down.

Phillips was served with his indictment while incarcerated. Koenigsberg was arrested at his residence. Both are now being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending their next court appearances.
