On September 4, 2018 at approximately 1136pm officers responded to a S. Central Avenue residence for a report of a disturbance. An officer arrived and found a male subject outside of the residence swinging a knife at the home owner who was still inside his residence.
The officer took control of the subject getting him to drop the weapon. The officer learned that a disturbance led to Dameon Eugene Lockett pulling a knife on the homeowner. The victim retreated inside his residence for safety. Lockett continued to swing the knife and cutting the screen to the door of the residence. Lockett was transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters for processing. He was later transported to the District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was held without bail.

September 5, 2018 at approximately 1255am officers were dispatched to a Frederick Street business for the report of an assault. Officers arrived and found two females in the parking lot suffering from head injuries as a result of the assault. The Cumberland Fire Department Ambulance was summoned to the scene to treat the victims.
The victims gave officers a description of the suspect but were not sure where he went after the assault. The officers located a male in the business that matched the description and he was detained. The victims were able to indentify Leon Wilton Britton as the suspect. The victims were transported to the hospital due to their injuries.
Officers spoke with other witnesses and reviewed video surveillance. Britton was placed under arrest and transported him to headquarters for processing.
Britton was later taken before the District Court Commissioner’s Office where he was held without bond. Britton was also found to have an active warrant through the US Marshals Service for failure to appear, his original charge was carrying a prohibited weapon. Britton will be held without bond awaiting extradition back to the federal court system.

On September 5, 2018 at approximately 0135am officers were dispatched to Warwick Avenue for a check on well being. Officers arrived and located Kristie Lynn Rice standing along the street. Officers spoke with Rice and determined that she had attempted to gain entry into a nearby residence. The screen to the residence had been cut and Rice’s shoes were lying in the yard. Rice admitted that she cut the screen to the residence and attempted to get inside. Rice was placed under arrest without incident.
She was processed and taken before the District Court Commissioner where she was released pending trial in District Court. Kristie Lynn Rice, 36 of Cumberland, MD Charges: 4th Degree Burglary, & Destruction of Property
