April 21st, 2017 by WCBC Radio

A 15-year-old male was taken into custody after an improvised explosive device was discovered during the execution of a search warrant at an apartment complex in Cumberland yesterday evening. The completed device was located inside the subject's bedroom while a search warrant was being executed on an unrelated investigation.      Bomb Technicians from the Office of the State Fire Marshal responded to assist local law enforcement officers and were able to safely removed the device from the complex and rendered it safe.

The juvenile admitted to making the improvised explosive device but denied the device was made to cause harm to anyone or damage to any property.

The juvenile was later transported to the Western Maryland Children's Center in Hagerstown, where he is being held on charges of Manufacturing a Destructive Device.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was assisted by the Cumberland Police Department, Cumberland Fire Department and Fire Marshal's Office, and Combined County Criminal (C3I) Unit.
