MD Democrats Making Education Funding Key Election Year Issue

Its appears as though democrats want to make education funding a key election year issue as they look to take back the governor’s office in Annapolis. While incumbent Republican Governor Larry Hogan touts a record level of funding for public schools during his term, the Democrats contend he should have done far more. The state’s nonpartisan Department of Legislative Services says Hogan followed the legal requirements of the state’s school funding formula.  The governor says the problem is not that school systems lack money- its that they don’t utilize those funds correctly.  He has criticized the operation of school systems from Baltimore City to Washington County and has pushed to create the office of Education Inspector General. Hogan said the job would be to investigate “complaints on unethical, improper, illegal conduct on matters including procurement, education assets, graduation requirements, grading, education facilities and budgets”…
