Md. Senate to take up transportation scoring system

March 30th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Senate will be debating a contentious measure that would create a scoring system to set spending priorities for transportation projects.

The bill will be taken up Wednesday, after Republicans who oppose the bill asked for more time to consider changes.

Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said Tuesday that the Senate will be moving expeditiously to pass the legislation, which has been approved by the House.

The Senate already has made a change to give the governor's transportation secretary the ability to decide what weight he wants to put on criteria in the scoring system. The governor would not have to make spending decisions based on the project scores, but reasons would have to be given for funding a project with a lower score over another.
