Amateur Radio “Field Day” event will take place from June 24th at 2PM and runs till 2PM June 25th in LaVale. Members of the Mountain Amateur Radio Club will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise at 599 Georges Creek Blvd, the old LaVale swimming pool. Fatal Crash on Westernport Road

On Friday June 16 at approximately 11:20 P.M. a motor vehicle collision in the area of the 24,000 block of Westernport Road (Hwy 135) was reported to the Allegany County Joint Communications Center. Upon arrival, units found that a passenger vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, went off the roadway, and collided with a tree. The driver of the vehicle, Mr. Levi Valentine (31, of Westernport, MD) was pronounced deceased at the scene of the motor vehicle collision. Mineral County Fair to Open Tuesday

The Mineral County Fair is set to open on Tuesday with gates and rides open from Tuesday through Friday from 6pm to 10 pm and on Saturday from 5pm to 11pm.  Events this year include the Diamond J. UMCES to Host Listening Session on Potomac Watershed June 22nd

MVA Returning to Pre-Pandemic Testing Procedures

Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration has announced that it will end temporary driving test modifications put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic.  Starting on Tuesday, June 20, driver’s licensing examiners will remain in an applicant’s vehicle for both the closed course and on-road testing portions of the driving test.  Until June of last year, driver’s licensing examiners gave instructions from outside an applicant’s vehicle in order to maintain social distancing.  For more information, visit www.mva.maryland.gov  

Traffic Alert Juneteenth Memory March

The Juneteenth Memory march will be held this Saturday, June 17th, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Due to the number of citizens attending the Memory march, some changes to the traffic pattern will be implemented to ensure the safety of the citizens and at the same time provide motorists with access around the march to prevent any back-ups or delays.  A change in the traffic routes listed below around the downtown area will be in effect one hour prior to the start of the march and will last until the conclusion of the march.   Motorists traveling south on Mechanic…

Juneteenth Events Scheduled for Area

Juneteenth Celebrations will be taking place throughout the weekend in the Cumberland area.  WCBC’s Kathy Cornwell has more on the events scheduled… Saturday's events kick off with a Remembrance March, starting at City Hall at 1pm.
